The M50 is the new Brembo monoblock caliper fitted to the Ducati 1199 Panigale. The ‘M’ in M50 stands for ‘monoblock’, a technology introduced with success by Brembo in 1994 with 500cc in mind, whereby the caliper body can be fashioned from
a single billet of cast aluminium, guaranteeing optimum stiffness; the number ‘50' celebrates the number of years the Brembo Group has been in business. The two Italian Companies consolidate their long-lasting cooperation with a product derived from racing and top of the range for the Ducati Superbikes, which aims to be the benchmark for the new generation of sport bikes. This caliper represents the outcome of a process using sophisticated “topology optimization” programs, in which iterative procedures allow design engineers to remove material from areas of the caliper where it is not needed, so as to get as close as possible to the optimum structure, combining maximum stiffness and minimal weight. The M50 is lighter than the previous model for high performance road bikes, weighing a full 6% less. The compact body of the M50, with its typically racing-oriented design, now accommodates 4 pistons of 30mm diameter and has undergone extensive testing and tweaking to ensure it will deliver the power and modulation for which Brembo calipers are renowned. In addition, the M50 is coupled with a master cylinder sized specifically to suit the new caliper. This product expands the range of radial-mounting front calipers with 100mm fixing centres, compatible with all types of large displacement road machines.
