MX-5 Roadster榮獲World Car of the Year與World Car Design of the Year雙冠軍

在紐約車展如火如荼的展開之際， 2016 World Car of the Year 獎項也在現場正式公佈最終得主，那就是人見人愛的 Mazda MX-5 ND，打敗了其餘二個實力強勁的對手：Mercedes-Benz GLC 與 Audi A4，而除了成為 World Car of the Year 以外，MX-5 更拿下 World Car Design of the Year ，可說是雙喜臨門。當然除了上述獎項以外，MX-5 已經在日本拿下日本自動車殿堂 JAHFA 「2015～2016 Car of the Year」榮耀 與 2015-2016 Japan Car of The Year 獎項，更不用說其他國際媒體的高度推崇。

至於其他獎項部分，才於紐約車展推出敞篷版本的 Audi R8 車系則獲得 2016 World Performance Car，打敗Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe 與 Honda Civic Type R 二個截然不同的對手； World Luxury Car of the Year 則是由 BMW 7-Series 所拿下。最後 Toyota 創新的氫氣燃料電池車 Mirai FCV 則將 Chevrolet Volt 與 同門師兄弟 Toyota Prius hynrid 二種車型拋在腦後，拿下 World Green Car of the Year 殊榮。

2016 World Car of the Year 最早是從 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show 開始決選，當所有的提名者被選出之後，歷經四個月的審查，到了三月的時候在日內瓦由71位來自世界各地不同的記者來評斷，在五個獎項之中選出前三名來作為最後決選名單。
