GF-6 is an automotive specification forpassenger car motor oils (PCMO) that was developed by ILSAC* (InternationalLubricants Standardization and Approval Committee). This specification isintended to:

Recently, improvements in engine hardwareand manufacturing technology have allowed the use of lower viscosity grades inpassenger car vehicles while maintaining engine durability. Additionally, thedemand for better fuel economy (更好的燃油經濟性)has increased both end user and OEM interest in low viscosityengine lubricants(低粘度引擎潤滑油). This has led to an increase in the use of 5W-20 and even 0W-20viscosity grades over the thicker 10W-30 and 10W-40 grades. The trend to lowerviscosities will continue with the introduction of a new viscosity grade in GF-6.

* ILSAC was formed in 1992 by AAMA(American Automobile Manufacturers Association, representatives ofDaimlerChrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation)and JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association) to define the need,parameters, licensing and administration of lubricant specifications. Togetherwith the Tripartite system (API, SAE and ASTM) they formed EOLCS (Engine OilLicensing and Certification System). ILSAC oils often carry the API ServiceSymbol (Donut) including the Energy Conserving designation and/or APICertification Mark (Starburst).
